Merry Poppins

Merry Poppins is the cheeriest valve in the unit, and she's always right on time.

Most days, Merry sits quietly on her vessel, spring set, seat tight, minding her own business. She's patient. She's polite. She doesn't leak a drop. But the moment pressure climbs to her set point, Merry pops open with a smile and sends that excess pressure on its way, straight down the header to her good friend Seymour Smoke at the flare.

Once things settle down, Merry reseats neatly, tidies up, and goes right back to waiting. That's her favorite part of the job: in, out, and everything back in order.

Merry has a few pet peeves. She can't stand being oversized, because it makes her chatter, and chattering is simply not proper. She insists her inlet line be short and generously sized, keeps a careful eye on backpressure, and expects to be pulled, tested, and inspected on schedule. A well-kept valve is a happy valve.

She may be cheerful, but make no mistake: Merry is serious about her job. When every other safeguard has done what it can, she's the one standing between an overpressure and a very bad day.
